Welcome February

Zach.........
My hubby and I met 18 years ago this month....in some ways seems like forever, and in other ways....just yesterday. We were like the Brady Bunch, His.....Mine.....and Ours..... and five grandchildren later......
As I look back on the years, where has the time gone? I'm wondering what holds for the next 18 years, and I know God has been good, faithful, and exciting. Have a great day.

A Story you won't want to miss......

I arrived at the address where someone had requested a taxi. I honked but no one came out. I honked again, nothing. So I walked to the door and knocked. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.
After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940s movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets.. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware. 'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, and then returned to assist the woman. > She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated'.. 'Oh, you're such a good boy', she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address, and then asked, 'Could you drive through downtown?' 'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly. 'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice'. I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued. 'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter. 'What route would you like me to take?' I asked. For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing. As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired. Let's go now' We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her. I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair. 'How much do I owe you?' she asked, reaching into her purse. 'Nothing,' I said 'You have to make a living,' she answered. 'There are other passengers,' I responded. Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly. 'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said. 'Thank you.' I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut.. It was the sound of the closing of a life. I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life.
We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments.
But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one. PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID, BUT THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL. Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

The most Awesome Gift!

Hi Friends,

I recieved the most awesome gift from my sister......She compiled a book of letters sent from my dad to my Grandparents while he was in Vietnam. My dad was drafted in the army when I was 5 years old. I can still remember sitting at my Nanny's and Poppy's house being very quite as we watched on the tv, all the names of the soliders killed in action. Fortunately, my dad's name was never on the list, and he safely returned upon the illness and death of my poppy, just about 60 days before he was due to get out. My dad was always very precious to me. I loved teasing him, getting him worked up, but that was just a fun thing to do at the time. In some ways I'm like him a lot, but in other ways, totally opposite. I noticed that my older daughter Audrey is like him in several ways, when she's ready to go, she's ready to go. She's left handed, and a little hyper like him at times. Ashley is thrifty like he was. My dad passed away at a young age of 53., 19 years ago in June. He came home safely and alive from Vietnam, but I have a feeling that he was affected by agent orange. So anyway, thanks for letting me share. Thanks again Sis, I will always treasure the book you made for me with love.

Not Resolutions......Just Goals

Happy Belated New Year Friends.....This New Years is already coming in a fast way.....We're expecting snow here in Kentucky, starting tonight. We had a dusting on Monday, but I'm ready for a good deep snow, then in a week or two my cold toes will be ready for spring to come.

I have goals this year that I'm hoping to do.

1. First, to get up earlier in the morning and have prayer and bible study (that's the most important.

2. To visit my daughter who lives out of town at least every 4-6 weeks.

3. To really get organized with my house, closets, craft room! (for real this time)

4. To make penny rugs and candle cozies

5. To finish some quilts, yes, I said FINISH!!

6. To eat healthy, and exercise

7. To continue to create new wonderfully scented candles

8. To blog more regularly

I'm sure there is more that I need to do, but we'll take it one step a day........

Have a wonderful blessed day

Linda

Back from Lexington and had a fabulous time...

A group of us girls....The Travelin Chicks, went to Lexington to peddle our wares. So much fun....We had such a good time of meeting new people and enjoying each others friendship....I had a blast.

Audrey with her "Lil Booger Bows", had hats, bows, and a "new" creation, her "clippy". They sold like hotcakes. They are a little flower with a button or bling in the center.....every girl should have several to stick in the hair, or use as a pin or a outfit or coat. They are really unusual, and oh so reasonable. Contact her at: www.lilboogerbows.com or at http://lilboogerbows.blogspot.com

Cathy, from Cobblestone Farms, had her unique handpainted ornaments that she sat and customized for excited Christmas Shoppers. Plus her one of a kind heirloom vintage braclets, were an awesome gift to be lucky to get. Cathy is a wonderful friend, mother, wife, and talented artist, whom I'm so happy to be in her circle of friends. She has a wonderful little gift shop on south 61 in Historic Green County Kentucky. Check her out at http://cobblestonefarms.blogspot.com

Angelina, the creator of the idea of "The Travelin' Chicks" , made her gourmet goodies, Oreo Balls and sold her Pampered Chef. She was a deliteful sales lady, and she is such an upbeat motivator and friend. Thanks Angelina for your work pulling this all together!

Linda, "Me", I peddled my Candles, Potpourri, and Air Fresheners. I made a new contact for a wholesale account, and hopefully will soon have my Kindlelight Blessings in several fine gift shops. Dickens Christmas, Hazelnut Delite, Oodles of Snickerdoodles all seemed to be a Hit fragrance this season. www.kindlelightblessings.com

Thanks for stopping by in my little neck of the woods. We all have products from head to toe, it's One Stop Shopping when you shop with a "Chick".

Thanks,
Linda
